Health and Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) Minister Dr. Raghu Sharma said that recognising the power of media, it can be used as a reliable weapon for change. He said the media is a powerful tool for creating awareness in society. Dr. Sharma was addressing the 30th foundation day function of the Pink City Press Club and journalist felicitation function as the chief guest on Saturday. He along with MLA Satish Punia and Deputy Mayor Puneet Karnawat inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp.The Public Relations Minister said, “It is a matter of pride for all of us to have the Pink City Press Club among the leading Press Clubs of the country. Many eminent journalists have termed it as Ideal Press Club.” He said that recognising the power of media, it can be used as a reliable weapon for change. He said that the media personnel during the corona pandemic in the last 18 months made the common people aware by reporting with courage.Dr. Sharma said that our nation builders were very much in favour of freedom of the press and used to say that in a democracy, however irresponsible the press may be, freedom of the press is compulsory to protect the democracy and strengthen the country. Media is a powerful tool for creating awareness in society. Wherever there is injustice, exploitation, harassment, corruption and deceit, it is quintessence and religion of the media to expose it in the public interest. The media of Rajasthan is very serious about discharging its responsibilities.He said that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is particularly sensitive about the media and on his directions, serious work has taken place on various activities for the welfare of journalists. Earlier there was a provision of Rs 5,000 per month under Rajasthan Varishth Adhisweekrat Patrakar Samman Yojana, which was increased to Rs 10,000 and now further increased to Rs 15,000 per month. Earlier, assistance up to Rs 1 lakh was being provided for serious diseases under Rajasthan Patrakar evum Sahityakar Kalyan Kosh Yojana. Now amending it, provision for assistance has been made for all serious diseases and maximum amount of assistance has been increased to Rs 2 lakh Earlier the health insurance for the journalists was up to Rs 3 lakh. Now, all media personnel have been included in Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Yojana Swasthya Bima Yojana and the amount of Rs 850 is also being borne by the State Government.The Public Relations Minister on this occasion felicitated media personnel with various prizes for their commendable contribution. He visited the photo exhibition organised on the occasion and praised its quality.Club President Mukesh Meena welcomed the guests and felicitated the founding members. Club Secretary Ramendra Solanki gave the vote of thanks. Vice President Rajkumar Sharma and Mukesh Pareek, treasurer DC Jain and executive members welcomed the guests.
